The purpose of this award is to adequately honor the memory of Prof. Rosario Brancato, choosing a modality that he would certainly have greatly appreciated.

The field of scientific interest of the award is medical retina, which has always been the one of the greatest interest in the professional life of Prof. Rosario Brancato, a person who dedicated his life to the treatment of patients affected by retinal diseases, contributing as a pioneer to the introduction of fluorescein angiography, OCT examinations and laser therapies.

The past four editions took place in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. The 5th edition will be organized during the OCT & RETINA FORUM, and the winner will be honored in the session dedicated to the “Rosario Brancato Retina Award”.

Prof. Rosario Brancato (August 25, 1934 Chiasso, Switzerland – February 8, 2020 Milan, Italy) dedicated his entire professional life to the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases. His major diagnostic contributions were first in the field of fluorescein angiography and later of OCT. Laser therapy was the field in which Prof. Brancato was able to introduce significant and original innovations. He was among the first to experiment and then to introduce into clinical practice dye and then the diode laser. His propensity for novelty always made him an enthusiastic and strong-willed supporter of technological innovations. His didactic activity was always marked by the emotional involvement of young people who saw in him a scientific and professional reference.
